Design Indaba Music Circuit 2013 highlights

Design Indaba Music Circuit 2013 was a true showcase of the power of creativity in South African music. Here is a roundup of the event.

With 32 artists performing in eight venues, all in one city, Design Indaba Music Circuit 2013 took Cape Town residents and visitors by storm.

Showcasing the best in South African music, as well as international performances, audiences were treated to an audio adventure like no other.

Kicking off at Design Indabar, performances by AF.BOTZ, The Plastics, Wild Eastern Arches, Mann Friday and Bilderberg Motel, were the perfect complement to magnificent sunsets and a relaxing environment after a day packed with inspiration at Design Indaba Conference.

According to The Plastics, who were “super stoked” to be part of the line-up, the crowd was epic and they thoroughly enjoyed themselves.

Other venues included the Assembly, Zula Bar, The Waiting Room, The Mahogany Room and Aces ‘n’ Spades. Performances at these venues included Niskerone, Hyphen, Anthea Scholtz, Jam Jarr, Honey B, Zaki Ibrahim, Taxi Violence, Dutch DJ Obscure and many more.

Design Indaba really is at the forefront of creativity. I’m a big fan of what Design Indaba does and a bigger fan of what they bring to South Africa. Concepts, innovation and ideas bring all the creatives together. I love everything they represent, says DJ Anthea Scholtz.

Gazelle and DJ Invisible believe their inspiration comes from many different elements and Design Indaba allowed them the opportunity to explore and realise their own possibilities and inspirations.

South African legend Hugh Masekela and long-time friend Larry Willis treated a small audience at The Mahogany Room to the very best in jazz.

It’s truly amazing to say the Design indaba happens in my city, says musician Joshua Grierson.
