Nicolas Roope

Nicolas Roope is a multidisciplinary designer, creative and entrepreneur.

Nicolas Roope is an artist. One of his disciplines of choice is interactive media and the communities and businesses that drive it. A lot of this interest is expressed through Poke, a digital creative company that believes in the power of creativity as a force for unlocking and creating value.

Roope is also the joint founder and creative director of Hulger, a product and brand development company that was established in 2005. In 2008 Hulger's Plumen CFL bulb concept design was included in MoMA New York's seminal Design and the Elastic Mind exhibition.

The Plumen 001, Hulger's first production "designer energy saving light bulb" reached all major global markets in 2010 and 2011 and has been recognised by "Brit Insurance Design of the Year - overall winner", a D&AD black pencil and GQ (US) Best Stuff of the Year 2011. Plumen is now in the permanent collections of MoMA (NYC), V&A and Cooper-Hewitt. The Plumen is sold worldwide and serves as a symbol of what happens when you apply design thinking at every level of product, business and brand.

Roope was included in The Wired 100 and Adage Creative 50 lists in 2011 and inducted into the BIMA Digital Hall of Fame in 2012. He is a proud co-chair of Internet Week Europe, chair of The Lovie Awards, a UK Webby Ambassador, member of the IADAS and jury member of the UK Superbrands Council. Roope also advises S[e]dition and Gabi.

“I'm still amazed by how little the link between creativity and value is understood and managed in business. If I have one goal it is to help to change this through demonstration,” says Roope about his work.
