Top 10 September 2014
When the godfather of graphic design shows up, stop and take heed. That's what visitors to designindaba.com did when we posted Milton Glaser's "10 Things I Have Learnt" essay. The venerable designer, now in his 80s and still working, has achieved what can truly be called "fame" for his multitude of iconic designs, yet he demonstrates in his own words that he is as humble and human as ever. It was the most popular story on our website this month and a huge hit in the Twittersphere.
An opinion piece on training designers to think like entrepreneurs written by Steven Heller, also a well-known New York City-based designer, and another by Cape Town architect Ilze Wolff ranked high this month, followed by two pieces focussing on South African fashion: Laduma Ngxokolo's presentation of his Xhosa-inspired knotwear in 2011 and Adam Levin's overview of the evolution of local fashion in 2006.
Graphic design was a crowd-puller, with an interview with Ogilvy & Mather Mumbai creative director Piyush Pandey from 2010, another with Michael Bierut in 2013, a Hot Topic addressing designers' obsessions and a feature on an ingenious pattern system all included in the Top 10.
And good news for us especially here at designindaba.com was that our story about our relaunch as a fully fledged online media platform was also one of the most popular this month.
