Hella Jongerius
Speaker Details
Hella Jongerius's projects date from 1993 and include objects in a wide range of mixed media such as polyurethane, latex, steel, felt, porcelain, glass, textiles, bronze, foam, plastics and gold. The leading thread in the work is to find the right balance between an industrially made serial product and a unique handmade piece, whereby both worlds remove their limits and products with identity appear.
Renovated combinations between materials and techniques in archetypical shapes are typical for Jongerius’s products. Some products are “independent” and produced in a limited edition. Besides these works there are commissions for the likes of Hermes Paris, Ikea Sweden, Maharam New York, Moss New York, Swarovski London, Royal Tichelaar Netherlands and Vitra international.
The products of Jongerius are part of collections of many national and international museums as well as private collections. Sometimes museums also function as commissioners, like New York’s Museum of Modern Art, for which My Soft Office was developed.
Jongerius has appeared in countless international design magazines. Her eponymous first book was published by Phaidon in 2003. Misfit, her second Phaidon monograph, was published in 2010.
