The winners of the prestigious INDEX: 2011 Award talk about their designs that all work to improve life.

The winners of the prestigious INDEX: 2011 Award were announced in Copenhagen last week.

In the Home category Alejandro Aravena won for this social housing project.
In the Body category Yves Béhar picked up the award for the See Better to Learn Better project.
In the Work category Kiran Bir Sethi was honoured for her Design for Change campaign.
In the Community category Design Seoul won the award to for their efforts to reimagine Seoul, using design.
In the Play category Hövding walked about with the prize for their invisible airbag for cyclists’ heads.

Kiran Bir Sethi

Kiran Bir Sethi is a designer who became a teacher, a principal who grew into an education reformer and subsequently morphed into a social entrepreneur. A trained graphic designer, she comfortably uses the language of design – iteration, prototype, design specs – to develop not only curriculum innovation, but also community-based social programmes.

Alejandro Aravena

Alejandro Aravena is the principal of Alejandro Aravena Architects and the executive director of Elemental, a do-tank focusing on projects of social impact.
