Posture Up

Spinamic reimagines scoliosis treatment through wearable device.

Design studio Intenxiv has developed a scoliosis correction device, Spimaic, in collaboration with spinal surgeons and orthopaedic specialists, that addresses the shortcomings of traditional scoliosis braces—often rigid, uncomfortable, and stigmatising.

Unlike conventional options, the Intenxiv system has a modular, strap-based mechanism that allows for dynamic adjustments in real-time. Whilst conventional braces force the spine into alignment with brute constraint, Spinamic guides and supports gradual correction through a nuanced and ergonomic structure. Made from a lightweight frame composed of high-performance polymers, that carefully contours to the user’s body, Spinamic has integrated sensors and a companion app, that tracks posture and pressure, providing feedback for patients and clinicians allowing adjustments to be made.

For adolescents who make up the majority of scoliosis patients, this empathetic design has the potential to reduce stigma and improve compliance of treatment. Intenxiv intentionally designed the brace to be discreet, breathable, and comfortable enough for long-term wear—prioritising dignity and ease over medical austerity.
