Pick up the phone!

The Punkt DP 01 is a funky new phone design by Jasper Morrison for a Swiss consumer electronics band.

Jasper Morrison’s latest telephone design for Swiss consumer electronic brand Punkt comes with a simplified user interface and has a very bold 1980s design about it.

The Punkt DP 01 is taking the traditional telephone headset and turning it upside down, literally. With the headset buttons facing upward when the phone is placed in a hammock-like cradle, it means the user doesn’t have to pick it up to dial a number.

Morrison said:  “I thought about the old telephone, lying face down on it’s cradle, and asked myself if it wouldn’t be better off the other way round, so you could see the screen and dial the number without picking it up.”

Other interesting features on the Punkt DP 01 include a visual interface and answering machine that allows one to select a message to listen to, and eliminates the need to listen to a string of messages. There’s also enough memory to store the details of 100 contacts, a hands-free function and a high quality radio.

And the ability to choose the most suited ring tone. A sound artist developed 10 different tones that suit various environments.
