Jasper Morrison on designing from personal experience

Designers are often responsible for making atmospheres, but they must steer away from visual pollution says Jasper Morrison.

The motivations of designers are an important consideration in the development of good objects. British product designer Jasper Morrison believes that good objects don’t always result from wanting to be noticed.

Inspiration is sometimes found in the most mundane places and objects. Designing from personal experience often yields the most creative results, says Morrison.

Morrison reminds designers of their responsibility to fill environments with interesting, useful and normal things.

Morrison founded Super Normal in 2005 with Naoto Fukasawa and held the first Super Normal exhibition in Tokyo in 2006. Also in 2006, Lars Müller Publishers released his monograph In Everything but the Walls. His company, Jasper Morrison Ltd, is based in London and Paris.
