The Cubist Vases by Constantin and Laurene Boym of Boym Partners are the first in a series titled “Souvenirs of Modernism”. Over the next 10 years, between 2010 and 2020, Boym will create editions inspired by Modernism, in recognition of the movement’s 100th year.
Cubist Vases were created by joining crystal planes in a way that pays homage to the Cubist paintings of Picasso and Braque. The flat crystal shapes are joined with ultraviolet glue to create three-dimensional objects.
The duo explain that the design is full of unexpected, multifaceted reflections and distortions, reminiscent of analytical Cubic work.
