Fashionable aliens

Senegalese fashion designer Selly Raby Kane's Fall/Winter 2014 collection titled "Alien Cartoon" is a truly contemporary African line.

Part of the Project

Fusing elements of pop art, urban glamour and street culture, the Alien Cartoon collection makes a strong fashion statement anywhere, anytime.

Fashion designer Selly Raby Kane belongs to a new generation of urban, curious and open-to-the-world artists and designers who are bringing a new energy to Senegalese culture.

She founded the Seraka label in 2008 with its unique mix of influences for a singular and uninhibited style. With attention to detail and a passion for accessories, Seraka builds a strong personality that is free, sophisticated, rebellious and assertive.

Silhouettes are structured and material combinations are a-typical, resulting in a collection that pulsates with the vibrancy of a real African metropolis.

Selly Raby Kane is staging an exciting fashion showing of the Alien Cartoon art and fashion collection that combines an element of performance art today, 17 April, in Dakar, Senegal entitled Afrofuturism | Time Travelling | Dakar Invaded.

The Selly Raby Kane's 2012 Be Street collection was also displayed as part of Design Indaba Expo’s groundbreaking exhibition Africa is Now under the theme “Africa is Sharp!”, which showed off the bright colours and rich patterns that are seen throughout the continent.
