Piet Hein Eek: A creative person thinks about the whole process

Furniture designer Piet Hein Eek is the opposite of a specialist – he's involved in the whole process when it comes to design, from the idea to the consumer.

From the Series

Design Indaba 2012 conference speaker Piet Hein Eek is equally endowed as a designer as he is an entrepreneur. For Eek, the goal is to be in an environment that is stimulating, something he puts into practice with his Eindhoven workspace that is a completely self-sustaining, new-age design hub, consisting of his studio and factory space that also serves as a showroom, gallery and restaurant.

As a designer, Eek believes in having an over-arching understanding of the processes involved in a project.

If you have an idea you thave to think about the whole process, from the idea on to the consumer. The only real generalist in the process of all the specialists is the designer. A creative person is someone who is able to think about the whole process, says Eek.
