Stefano Giovannoni has excelled as both an industrial and interior designer. At times graciously utilitarian, his plastic designs often exhibit an impish playfulness. His pop-coloured tableware for Alessi is a prize example. Fruit Mama, his deliriously quirky reinterpretation of the fruit bowl, also suggests his avant garde leanings. The Magic Bunny toothpick holder and Far-East inspired citrus-squeezer offer supreme examples of a design style that is at once boldly simple and cheerily childlike.

Giovannoni's talents are not limited to plastic tableware. Mami, a sleek range of sexy, stainless steel cookware is equally good to look at, as it is to use. He has also worked on home furnishings for Alessi, Flos, Magis, Seiko, Kankyo, Inda, Oras and Laufen. His work is held in the permanent collections at the Georges Pompidou Centre in Paris, and New York's MOMA.

Since 1979 he has been a teacher with the Florence Faculty of Architecture, holding the chair of master-professor at Domus Academy in Milan.
