Top 10 June 2014

What did designindaba.com readers find click-worthy in June? Here are the top ten most popular stories of the month.

In the most-viewed video this month, Mikal Hallstrup from Designit illuminates the nebulous concept of service design and how lateral, creative thinking can be applied to so many of the world’s problems.

Another of our most popular stories this month introduces a nifty device that exemplifies this. The Ekasi water cap, by Peter Krige, is a pressure-tight closure that can be fitted onto a 20-litre drum and other easily available parts to create a shower for unplumbed homes in South Africa's townships.

Stories from Africa also proved popular with our audience this month. Featured in the top ten are retro-inspired lighting brand Hoi P'loy, a studio visit to ceramicist Clementina van der Walt, a creative product collaboration between Mlondolozi Hempe and Laduma Ngxokolo, as well as Dutch furniture brand LINTELOO's Afrika collection of decor and upholstery fabrics.

In international news, Pentagram's redesign of the Cooper Hewitt identity by Eddie Opara, a Q&A with Marije Vogelzang and a video interview with product designer Ian Murchinson had readers clicking away.
