Top 10 stories of 2016
Unsurprisingly, more than half of our Top 10 Stories of 2016 are from the African continent. From portraits of defiant young women in Cape Town to illustrations that capture the slang of the city’s youth; we’ve featured a series of futurist Maasai warriors that look at how alien tech might clash with an old African culture, and shared the remixed beats of 50-year-old archive of African sounds. There’s no doubt that this is a continent of stories waiting to be told.
Sustainability and shelter are also dominant themes in our top stories, with a DIY plastic recycling machine, ideas around turning urine into fertiliser at festivals and housing solutions for South Africa’s townships from one of our 2016 Design Indaba Conference speakers, Alfredo Brillenbourg.
