#DITakeover on Instagram: Lesedi Mogale

We asked Pretoria resident and budding photographer Lesedi Mogale to take over our Instagram feed. Here’s what he came up with.

We’ve invited a fascinating and diverse group of creative people to take over our Instagram account for the next few weeks as an experiment to open up their daily lives to our followers. Our first official #DITakeover Instagrammer was Lesedi Mogale, a budding photographer who works as a communications officer in the South African Army.

An Emerging Creative at this year’s Design Indaba Expo, Mogale was a bold choice: he has a distinctive aesthetic that juxtaposes stillness and provocation. He clearly has a sensitive eye, helping us see beauty in the mundane (the shadows on an unmade bed) and framing breathtaking images of Pretoria at night. His photos are unapologetically frank: at least two images involving penises were removed from our feed by the IG police and captions allude to late nights and rough mornings.

Here is a taste of what he did and where he took us. Check our IG feed for more images and for this week’s guest poster: accessories designer Katherine-Mary Pichulik, who is taking us behind the scenes as she preps for the launch of her AW2015 collection on Friday.

#DITakeOver is now over and here is my last offering of stillness. Enjoy and thank you ✌ @lmjmogale
