Carly Berger on sustainable housing solutions

Carly Berger investigates how green housing solutions can successfully be implemented in neighbourhoods.

Carly Berger, an architecture student at Parsons The New School for Design in New York embarked on a project in 2011 entitled “Empowerhouse”. In this Pecha Kucha talk at Design Indaba Conference 2012, she speaks about how the project involves building, operating and designing a small solar-powered house.

We wanted to have our work extend beyond the competition and effect real change in sustainable housing, says Berger.

On her journey through the project she realised that it is important to answer social questions rather than just technological ones, and she elaborates on this notion.
