Craig Wessels studied graphic design at the Natal Technikon in Durban. During his compulsory military service he began studying for a BComm in marketing and psychology, which led him to advertising. In 1996, after four years at advertising agencies, he went on to explore the then relatively new world of CGI in New York, Los Angeles and London, before returning in 1997 to start Wicked Pixels.

Wicked Pixels was the first boutique studio in South Africa to specialise in the craft of animation, visual effects and motion graphic design. It has become one of the most awarded local animation studios, and clients include international ad agencies as well as broadcasters like MTV, HBO, DStv, e.tv and SABC.
