Laughter is the best medicine. Humour is infectious. Along with binding people together and increasing overall happiness, laughter triggers healthy physical changes in the body.
We asked five international designers and creatives – what makes you laugh out loud?
Andrew Shoben, artist and founder of greyworld
Funny people make me laugh, I recently realised, because I’m utterly surprised at what they say – and because of this, how their minds work. Real laughter gets “stolen” from me – it’s involuntary and explosive. And usually because someone’s mind just revealed itself a little.
Christoph Niemann, graphic designer and illustrator
At least one New Yorker cartoon each issue – which is A LOT!
Khaya Dlanga, senior communications manager for Coca-Cola SA
I’m an easy audience. I laugh very easily. There are many things that make me laugh out loud. I don’t know what my life would be if I didn’t laugh out loud. Someone once said this about me, “You hear Khaya’s laugh long before you see him”. There is a lot of truth to that. I just love laughing.
Christine Goudie, industrial designer
Usually unexpected sarcasm or anything by comedian Kirsten Wiig.
Hellicar & Lewis, interaction designers
Joel Lewis: Pete Hellicar’s awful puns.
Pete Hellicar: Private Eye magazine. Makes both Joel and I laugh and then our blood boils.
