Hella Jongerius’s has fused futuristic and traditional elements in her Sphere Table, making a statement for any environment.
Dutch product designer Jongerius recently collaborated with a group of renowned designers to rethink and redesign the United Nations Delegates’ Lounge in New York City. For the project Jongerius created her Sphere Table that is ideal for individual privacy.
The table reveals a familiar archetype of a traditional table combined with a futuristic-looking sphere designed for concealment. The Sphere Table is a solid wooden table with a large half-sphere of opalescent acrylic glass, which can be attached to the left or right-hand side of the structure. As it can be adjusted, the half-sphere caters for individual needs and can be screened off from the rest of the room.
