Magic-making lemonade

Sometimes the most simple of acts can inspire wonder.

There’s a popular quote by Ursula K Le Guin that reads, “The creative adult is the child who survived”. The banal yet increasingly fast-paced reality of adulthood can drain the wonder out of anyone. Design Academy Eindhoven graduate Renske Rothuizen’s work attempts to put the whimsy back into our grey lives using playful, childlike creations. Her latest project, the Lemonade Factory does this by recreating miraculous moments from long-lost childhood.

Rothuizen believes the Lemonade Factory “invites delight back into our daily existence one sip at a time.” Inspired by the lemonade tree in the classic tales of Pippi Longstocking, the Lemonade Machine celebrates the fun of making lemonade in a practical and visual way.

“The device transforms the sour yellow fruit into delicious juice in minutes, right before your eyes. It’s like magic – the magic of childhood,” she adds.
