The How We Feel project

How We Feel is a non-profit initiative, dedicated to helping people de-stress and reconnect

The How We Feel is a free well-being journal developed by a team of scientists, designers, engineers, and psychologists. It helps users describe emotions accurately, recognize patterns, and learn healthy emotion-regulation strategies. Led by Ben Silbermann, co-founder of Pinterest, the product team includes experts passionate about enhancing emotional health. Scientific guidance comes from Dr. Marc Brackett and Yale University’s Center for Emotional Intelligence, known for improving emotional literacy in schools. The non-profit’s initial project, a COVID-19 symptom survey, has contributed to public health research.

Sound artist Yuri Suzuki has collaborated on How We Feel, a non-profit app that encourages emotional well-being through expressive journaling. After leaving Pentagram, Suzuki developed a unique sound toy for the app, which helps users create custom audio experiences to reflect or influence their emotions. Inspired by rhythms found in nature and daily life in Japanese cities, this tool aims to engage users’ senses and evoke specific moods, such as focus or relaxation. The app, supported by Yale's emotional intelligence experts, seeks to enhance users' emotional awareness and management skills.
