Carrol Boyes has announced the winners of her METAL 2008 New Designer Search, which was themed “Frame”. Of the 250 aspiring product designers who submitted their prototypes, Shritha Gungaya won third place, Sue Clark and Jens Juterbock won second place and Johan du Toit won first place. Du Toit’s winning design, Tree, was inspired by the idea of a “family tree”, so that one can attach images and mementos of one’s family and friends to the structure. The theme for METAL 2009 is “FruitFull – design beyond the bowl”. Entries open 30 March and the deadline is 30 June. More info: http://metal.carrolboyes.co.za/
