Rich Mnisi merges film with fashion

Check out this cinematic lookbook for Rich Mnisi's latest trans-seaonal collection Xingelengele.

Design Indaba Emerging Creative programme graduate and a speaker at our Conference in 2016, we're always excited to share the work of South African fashion designer Rich Mnisi. Now, for the first time, he has created a video lookbook for his latest collection. With minimal movement and maximum impact, high drama meets high fashion in this project, titled Xingelengele.

According to the designer, this first trans-seasonal collection Xingelengele, which means bell or siren, is a collection inspired by the way we handle things as people. It all started with the idea of “Ngi’cela i’void” which means "Please void the transaction" - and refers to that moment when you’re at the till in a supermarket and you decide not to go ahead with one of the items and the teller yells “Ngi’cela i’void” and the manager comes rushing.

"It made me think of the idea of undoing, and if we had the opportunity to “cela i’void” whenever we changed our minds or wanted to undo something that had happened, how many of us would jump at the opportunity and how many times would we undo," says Mnisi.
