Conceived of in 2002, INDEX: Design to Improve Life® is a Danish non-profit organisation that works to promote the application of design and design processes to improve vital areas of people’s lives worldwide. In 2018, a new documentary that takes an in-depth look at the NPO will premiere to a global audience, furthering their mandate of showing people how their personal lives and the lives of those around them can be improved by design.

Called Enough White Tea Cups, the film examines design from a distinctly Scandinavian point of view while striving to communicate that design is more than just decoration or the creation of objects for consumption.

Named for the organisation’s founding ethos, wherein they sought to encourage designers to stop designing white tea cups and instead focus their creative skills on more pressing issues, the documentary examines sustainable designs practises that embrace the principles of social, economic and ecological sustainability.

Through showcasing a variety of INDEX award nominees and winners – some of whom have designed methods/devices to prevent blindness, learn a foreign language, clean up the oceans and more – Enough White Teacups tangibly explores the many ways that inventions are being designed to impact our daily lives.
