Dutch design flies into Cape Town

Internationally celebrated Dutch product designer Hella Jongerius has given the KLM World Business Class a completely new look.

KLM Royal Dutch Airlines has brought its World Business Class up to a new level with the unmistakable signature of Dutch design. The new design for the cabin and the full-flat seats was crafted by world-famous designer Hella Jongerius.

Jongerius values KLM’s bold choice to eschew the safe route of impersonal mass production and to focus truly on the personal comfort of its passengers. “Feeling comfortable is not the same as experiencing comfort. If you understand that it’s all about the emotional state of a passenger, you take into account much more than just designing soft seats. My aim was to convert the World Business Class into a feel-at-home class”, she says.

The new refurbished aircraft, together with the refreshingly personal service of the KLM crew, results in a welcoming experience that delivers on KLM’s promise to provide a “journey of inspiration”. It truly is an extravaganza of Dutch design: from Jongerius’ new World Business Class cabin interior to Viktor & Rolf’s amenity kits and exclusive tableware by Marcel Wanders. Meals on board are created exclusively for KLM by Michelin-awarded Dutch chefs such as Richard Ekkebus, Sergio Herman and Jonnie Boer.
