Pray, Demetrios and Hustwit on film and its role in design

Filmmakers Gary Hustwit, Doug Pray and Eames Demetrios engage in dialogue with Michael Bierut about making movies that deal with design and its possibilities.

For Doug Pray filmmaking is about helping people to understand their own stories better, and he feels that the question that designers should ask is how your doing of a job affects the people that receive it.

Understanding should never be delegated because only if you’re doing the doing, can you get the learning from it, says Pray.

Gary Hustwit’s creative process is about making things that he would like to see, go or do that don’t already exist, and he expains this in the film Objectified, which looks at the role of design in our everyday lives.

Eames Demetrios says understanding should never be delegated because only if you’re doing the doing can you get the learning from it.
