Most Beautiful Object in South Africa (MBOISA) Along with DECO editor Laureen Rossouw’s nominee – the ‘Frail Flower’ paper sculpture by Rebecca Jones – we were enamoured by the eventual winner of the MBOISA 2012 award, the ‘Lily Pad’ ring by Kirsten Goss, which combined intriguing organic lines with a playful edge.
The ‘Your Street’ Challenge, inspired by Design Indaba, calls for ways to transform South Africa’s cities through design. A total of R250 000 has already been awarded to winners in Cape Town for the implementation of a walking route through Woodstock, fireproof shacks, urban gardens and public community facilities, while further winners in Joburg and Durban are set to be announced soon.
DECO’s eye-catching typography installation was designed by Guideline Manufacturing and painted in Plascon’s high-gloss ‘Tangerine Tango’ (O3-A1-1). RAW Studios created the cheery apple- green chairs exclusively for DECO, as well as a stylish wooden laptop stand, which was given away to new subscribers along with a Shweshwe bag made with fabric from Da Gama Textiles.
