Posted on March 9th 2011

BarberOsgerby have been appointed to design the London 2012 Olympic Torch.

Design duo Edward Barber and Jay Osgerby of BarberOsgerby have won an international competitive tender, launched by the London Organising Committee of the Olympic and Paralympic Games and the Design Council, to create the Torch for next year’s Olympic Games.

Some 8 000 Torchbearers will carry the Olympic Flame around the UK in the 70-day relay before the commencement of the Games.

BarberOsgerby will also be creating the celebration cauldrons to be used at the lunchtime stops and evening celebrations during the Olympic Torch Relay. They are also working on design aspects for the Paralympic Torch Relay.

The Olympic Torch is one of the most visible design briefs in the world, reckons David Kester, chief executive of the Design Council. Literally billion of eyes will get to see the Torch creation of BarberOsgerby.
