Craig Wessels directs the beautiful robotic music video for European pop-rock sensation Tokio Hotel’s Automatic.


The beautiful, emotionally charged robotic music video for European pop-rock sensation Tokio Hotel’s Automatic comes straight out of South Africa. The work of director Craig Wessels and Wicked Pixels, the music video was shot in a local desert location over three days before being edited and post-produced in Cape Town. Wicked Pixels were also responsible for the animated robot scenes and originated the idea of incorporating Tokio Hotel’s logo into the design of the robot’s faces. The video amassed over one-million views on Youtube in just four days.

Craig Wessels

Craig Wessels studied graphic design at the Natal Technikon in Durban. During his compulsory military service he began studying for a BComm in marketing and psychology, which led him to advertising.
