Inspired by an old-school good homemaker book, Hostess Koekies is a spunky alternative to the over-subscribed Rules Book for how women can catch a lover. The result of a collaboration between journalist Lauren Shantall, novelist Lauren Beukes and artist Karen Stewart, the project has over the years entailed performance, product design, cupcake-making and pamphlet distribution. The Hostess Koekies pamphlet gives a few emergency tips on how a woman should decorate her “cupcake”, from shaving a landing strip to lathering on the ice cream, and includes illustrations so you don’t get it wrong.
