The fun in function at Milan2011

Posted on March 18th 2011

At the Milan Furniture Fair Laikingland will examine the functional elements of crafted kinetic objects.

Function is often a key feature of design, but function should also embody an element of fun as in FUNction.

In the Ventura Lambrate district at the Milan Furniture Fair from 12 to 17 April 2011, Laikingland will be investigating FUNction with Tord Boontje, Atelier Ted Noten and AterlierNL. Laikingland looks at the unexpected activities, the fun element, for which these beautifully crafted kinetic objects can be employed.

Tord Boontje's doorbell performs a cacophony of sound and movement, a clock by AtelierNL invites the viewer to tell their story in 50 different languages, and Atelier Ted Noten's jewellery box houses a robot arm that protects and presents a magical ring.

Tord Boontje

Dutch product designer Tord Boontje first studied industrial design at the Design Academy in Eindhoven before completing his Masters at the Royal College of Art in London. He founded Studio Tord Boontje in London in 1996, before relocating to France in 2005.
