Monkeybiz is a non-profit income-generating bead project focussing on the economic empowerment of women from disadvantaged communities in South Africa. Started in January 2000 Monkeybiz has worked to transform South African beaded art from a mass-produced curio craft into high-quality, bespoke designer items. Each Monkeybiz artwork is unique and autographed by the artists to ensure due recognition for their work. All the profits from the sales of artworks are invested back into community services, including soup kitchens, a burial fund for artists and their families and food parcels. Monkeybiz artwork is sold worldwide in a variety of well-known shops as well as on the website.
