The Design Indaba Expo has shown you the best in design both locally and internationally, but you’re craving more? The only way to beat that craving is to pick up the Cape Town Design Route, hop on a bus and get ready for a sensory overload…all over again.

In partnership with Cape Town Tourism, the Cape Town Design Route launched last year and its success has brought it back for Design Indaba Expo 2010. Tourists and design fanatics can explore the Cape while taking a closer look at the creative minds that inhabit this city. It’s your chance at taking Design Indaba Expo beyond its walls with all you need at your fingertips.

The route features 62 Western Cape-based designers and design studios. All those featured are part of the Design Indaba Expo so rest assured the Design Route is offering you the best in design and product quality. The route will have you traversing the Cape Town City Bowl, the Southern Peninsula and the Winelands as well as a multitude of in-betweens, leaving you with no excuse for not experiencing all that Cape Town has to offer.

“Cape Town Tourism is proud to be a partner in the Cape Town Design Route. From Kloof Street to Khayalitsha, the people of Cape Town are expressive and communicative. Art, design, fashion, craft, music and performance are essential to the fabric of our city’s society and whole communities have grown their identities around these creative activities,” says Mariette du Toit-Helmbold, CEO of Cape Town Tourism.

You can pick up your Design Route at any of the Cape Town Tourism’s 18 Visitor Information Centres across the city.  Each Design Route participant is signposted with contact details as well as what sector they represent, making it easier for you to find exactly what you are looking for. Not sure how to get there? The best way to explore the Cape Town Design Route is to hop onto one of the City Sightseeing open top buses and simply let the designs come to you.

Through the Design Route, Design Indaba and Cape Town Tourism have found a way to promote the local design sector all year round, while boosting tourism to these local designers and lifting the profile of the South African creative industry. Now that’s creating a better world through creativity.
