Taintless, Lukhanyo Mdingi’s SS16 collection

A campaign lookbook showcasing South African designer Lukhanyo Mdingi’s latest androgynous menswear collection.

Lukhanyo Mdingi is a conceptual fashion designer who weaves a different story into each of his collections. In his new 2016 Spring/Summer collection Taintless, he draws inspiration from oriental aesthetics, using loose silk-like silhouettes to “blur the lines between his and hers fashion”.

Mdingi first showcased the collection at South African Menswear Week in July, but here we see the all-navy designs in a styled shoot set against plains of white sand and a crystal ocean. Even though the campaign is presented as menswear, it was created for both women and men. The description on Mdingi’s website explains: “Instead of pertaining created pieces to one distinct gender, the aim was to create a collection that is for all individuals. Keeping it clean, neat and timeless.”

The Taintless campaign was shot by Travys Owen with art direction and styling by Gabrielle Kannemeyer, makeup by Amori Birch and hats provided by Crystal Birch.
