Sexual expression and exploration in Joanne Leah’s risqué portraits

Photographer Joanne Leah boldly tackles female sexuality.

Sexuality, sexual expression, fetishism and bondage are the main themes explored in photographer Joanne Leah’s explosive photographs. Toying with colourful rope, flour, egg yolks and glitter, the artist uses these items to create risqué, yet subtle images.

The Brooklyn-based artist makes use of female non-professional models, although occasionally she uses male models. The conscious choice to use female models stems from the repression of female sexuality that is still prevalent in society.

“The cultural Madonna-whore complex limits sexual expression, sends mixed messages to women about sexuality,” the artist tells Konbini.
