Margarete Woermann is passionate about all things handmade. At this year’s Design Indaba Expo she showcased her love of handmade creations in a special feature, First Editions.
Capetonian Woermann celebrated her love for both plants and clay by fusing them in an authentic way. The combination resulted in a collection of sculptural clay vases that have a plant-like quality; the bulbous shape seem to be sprouting shoots.
Each vase explores ways of containing the memory of plant details in clay, making vessels that bring the plants closer into my life, says Woermann.
The clay vases drew much attention during the expo.
