Lisa Firer creates organic forms in her handcrafted porcelain designs

Woodstock-based potter Lisa Firer creates ceramics that are inspired by the tactility of hand-rolling and hand-embossing clay.

Working with a small team in her Cape Town studio, Lisa Firer produces ceramic collections defined by their handmade character and artistic detailing. Her patterns range from intricate botanicals to African prints. Divided between commissions, work for her own brand and bespoke pieces; her portfolio of work includes lighting designs, vases and various vessels.

The hand-shaping and moulding of the raw clay lends the studio’s trademark organic forms a natural-looking, unprocessed aesthetic, which is sometimes supplemented by hand-embossed patterning.

An advocate for local design, Firer often exhibits at design shows and collaborates with a number of local designers, from fine artists to jewellery makers and illustrators.

Firer's most recent collaboration is a collection with her mother, Pearl Firer: “Inspired by the love of flowers, their colour and infinite variety, this work also celebrates our joy of working together and the on-going journey of inspiring one another.”

Lisa Firer’s work features in Mr Price Home's Colab range, a unique range of homeware designed to celebrate South African talent.
