Ineke Hans has worked with boat builders and coopers on Fogo Island in Newfoundland to create a range of bespoke furniture for the local inn.
The Dutch designer has created two collections of wooden furniture for the hotel and a seating range for public use on the island.
The indoor furniture takes inspiration from Fogo’s wood-spinning tradition, which allows craftsmen to create different shapes and produce one-of-a-kind pieces. The indoor collection consists of four designs: an easy chair, a rocking chair, a long bench and a get-your-feet-up chair. The arms of the wooden furniture are wide providing a comfortable and spacious armrest or area to place a hot beverage.
The outdoor collection is based on the plank silhouettes of houses found on the island. Simple seats, high seats, tables and chaises longues make up the collection.
For the public seating items, Hans designed benches that are dotted around the island. Residents and visitors are encouraged to use them at any time.
All furniture items were coloured according to hues that are traditionally seen around the island.
