The LVMH laureate and Design Indaba Emerging Creative alumni, Thebe Magugu recently opened the doors to ‘Magugu House’, a first-of-its-kind flagship, multisensory experience retail experience in Johannesburg, South Africa. A milestone achievement for any designer, ‘Magugu House’ serves as Thebe Magugu’s first physical showroom.
Known for his vibrant storytelling and contemporary African aesthetic, Thebe Magugu infuses the showroom with his trademark energy. Featuring a showroom, two micro galleries, a reception and fitting room, the space will showcase his upcoming capsule collection as well as host regular exhibitions from local African designers.
“I have always loved the idea of pouring all my collections, installations, events & projects into one space, and Magugu House becomes exactly that - an institution solidifying our universe. I started Thebe Magugu as an afro-encycopaedic look at key histories and heritage from the continent; with collections named after university subjects as a closer study. In that regard, Magugu House becomes the first campus” Thebe Magugu.
Magugu House opened to global acclaim and has been featured amongst Time’s World Greatest Places for 2024.
