It’s probably fair to say that the flip-flop is to Brazil what McDonald's is to the USA, in terms of cultural icons. A giant flip-flop sculptural installation in San Paulo, Brazil therefore worked quite well for the Pixel Show 2010, an international art and design conference held in the city.
Dutch artist Florentijn Hofman created a giant monkey out of inflatable flip-flops of the popular Brazilian brand Opanki. Called the Fat Monkey, this 5 x 4 x 15 metre sculpture was made with the help of local students and forms part of a series called Obeastitas.
