Two interconnected skyscrapers evoke the grace of ballet.

Portuguese architecture firm OODA unveiled the design for Bond Tower in Tirana, Albania, as a dancing duo of skyscrapers that meet in a ‘plié’.

The 50-floor tower, to be built In a development zone in the western part of Tirana, is designed to become an icon of the development and modernisation of the Albanian capital, uniting residential, commercial and hospitality spaces in a reflection of the city’s vibrant urban life.

Distinguished by two interconnected volumes of different heights, one of which hinges in a way reminiscent of the knee bend characteristic to ballet, the interplay of the towers avoids the presence of a one massive urban volume. The tallest of the connected towers will rise to 50 storeys, while the shorter one will lean away from the taller in a dramatic angle before joining vertically alongside it again.

‘More than just a building, Bond is a dance of connection and harmony, a gateway to new urban experiences, emerging as a living structure that embodies connection, cultural heritage and urban transformation,’ write the architects.

The external structure of the building will reflect the traditional patterns of Albanian carpets, with zigzagging balconies and rails creating a unique texture on the facade. ‘Facades have the power to represent, transform and reflect the history and culture of a society,’ explains OODA. ‘Just as a dancer weaves precision into every movement, this building weaves history and culture into a tapestry that reflects the city’s evolving identity. Our approach provides a physical representation of Tirana’s evolving identity, bringing the influences of historical heritage into a dance with contemporary architectural practices.’

Public green spaces Inspired by the Albanian mountains will be integrated throughout the building. The vegetation strategy will mimic the natural gradation found in these mountains, with resilient plants on the elevated levels reflecting the high-altitude flora. Varied plantings on the lower levels will echo the mountain valleys, providing a diverse and enriching experience with an interesting variety of textures and scents.
