From the Series
Photographer and multimedia artist Pablo Thecuardo turns editorial photographs into unusual, surreal creations. Using otherwise ordinary fashion photography, Thecuardo cuts up, reduces, rearranges, and transforms the human subject to create something abstract and disruptive.
Describing the symbolic effect of his process, Thecuardo says, “The collages I make express the duality in the human being - who we want to be versus who we really are and what part of us we show to others.”
By removing, adding and reconfiguring certain parts of each photograph, Thecuardo creates a visual metaphor. He refers to the way we hide and change certain parts of ourselves based on external conditions.
Thecuardo acts as a visual surgeon, manipulating parts of the human image and inviting the viewer’s own eye to make sense of the resulting optical disruption.
