Big Yellow Rabbit

The Big Yellow Rabbit installation is a fun gesture that encourages people to rethink the purpose of public space.

Rotterdam-based artist Florentijn Hofman has conceived a large-scale sculpture for the Open ART biennale in Öreboro, Sweden.

The 13-metre high Big Yellow Rabbit installation challenges the function and purpose of public space, as well as exploring the notion of scale and urban perspective by creating a new focal point in this square.

Big Yellow Rabbit is constructed from locally-manufactured shingles and a wooden armature. A temporary installation, the giant plush rabbit seems to have been accidentally dropped on the plaza.

Resting against the Engelbrekt monument, the original focal point on this site, Big Yellow Monkey encourages viewers to consider an alternative use of public space.

More than 25 local volunteers made the sculpture possible.
