Marcel Wanders has designed a lamp in the shape of a bell to represent a very early and essential form of communication.
The Dutch designer created the Bell Lamp, produced by Moooi, for this year’s London Design Festival. Drawing on the function of a bell, the lamp somewhat evokes a welcoming ring that brings people together for festivals and congregations, ideally suited for the renowned design week.
Wanders has often drawn on the shape of a bell for his personal collections and now for the first time extends the motif to his Moooi creations.
The Bell collection is available as pendant or floor lamps, and although they differ in format, materials and finishing, their bell-shape shades are all decorated with a festive ceramic bow.
The collection is showcased as part of Moooi’s Unexpected Welcome at Moooi London during London Design Festival until 22 September 2013.
