Fashion at Design Indaba Expo

Style, flair, creativity and innovation characterised the fashion arena at Design Indaba Expo 2013. Here’s a look at some of the highlights.

The fashion arena at Design Indaba Expo 2013 was abuzz with creative energy and talent. The Cape Town Fashion Council (CTFC) presented a pavilion where 20 established and emerging fashion designers exhibited their creations.

A special feature at the fashion pavilion was the hanger installation, literally an installation comprising more than 4 000 hangers. The installation served as a tribute to American modernist artist Man Ray (1890 – 1976) and his work “Obstruction” (1920). Cape Town major Patricia de Lille hung the 4 250th hanger on the installation.

The work of a range of dynamic designer was seen on the Expo floor, including Shana Morland, Adriaan Kuiters, Take Care, Chimpel, Spilt Milk, Non-European and Adam & Eve.

The designers were unanimous about the value of the opportunity and exposure that Design Indaba Expo offers to fashion designers. Bryan Ramkilawan, CEO of CTFC, believes that the industry needs more platforms like Design Indaba to promote fashion and design in South Africa.
