Andy Cartwright of the Andy Cartwright Homeware was the winner of the inaugural Design Indaba  Innovation Award at Design Indaba Expo 2012.

In line with Design Indaba’s commitment to promoting unique, high-quality South African design, the new Design Indaba Innovation Award seeks to encourage Design Indaba Expo exhibitors to push their own creative limits to a whole new level.

The inaugural award went to Durban-based designer Andy Cartwright of Andy Cartwright Homeware for his modular product system, “Korol”.

Korol uses geodesic mathematical formulas to create star-shaped components that, when connected at their points, can form anything from tea light candleholders to lampshades and stools to enormous wall murals. The Korol system is made of 100% recycled polypropylene.
