Christien Meindertsma on her affinity for raw materials

Her thoughtful exploration of materials such as wool and flax sees Christien Meindertsma creating gorgeously ethical design.

An interest in raw materials has led Christien Meindertsma to working with wool, flax and pig. She talks about her creative process, wool and exploring the uses of flax material with traditional rope makers to create gorgeous lighting cables.

For me when I look at a couch, I think about which cow is behind this leather, or if I see a wooden panel, what tree is this or what are these curtains made of. For me this is an exciting way of looking around, says Meindertsma.

Meindertsma also explored pigs and their countless uses as a design raw material.
