Graphic knowledge

Renowned graphic designer Steven Heller will be speaking at Design Indaba Conference 2013.

Wearing many hats, Steven Heller is an art director, journalist, critic, editor and author who specialises in topics related to graphic design and popular culture themes.

Heller was an art director at the New York Times for 33 years, originally on the op-ed page and for almost 30 of those years with the New York Times Book Review.

The Design Indaba Conference audience have been requesting to see Heller as a speaker on the main stage for a number of years now, and it is our pleasure to present him as a speaker in 2013.

Heller has authored, co-authored or edited more than 100 books on design and how the subject shapes popular culture.

A stand-out publication is Heller’s Euro Deco, which is the result of working with his wife Louise Fili to uncover the birth of modern graphic design in Europe. The compendium features well over a thousand images from posters, packaging, adverts and brochures displaying the elegant geometry between typography and illustration.

Heller’s Design Literacy: Understanding Graphic Design is an up-to-date book providing an understanding into what makes graphic design significant. The thought-provoking book offers a vast taste of aesthetic, political, historical and personal issues that move today’s global design community and fans.
