A renewed interest in quality food, ethical food growing practices and locally-sourced produce has seen community food markets emerging everywhere and steadily rising in popularity. This year Design Indaba Expo visitors and exhibitors can enjoy a unique cullinary experience with the wholesome but scrumptious fare of the Earth Fair Market in the food zone at Cape Town International Convention Centre (CTICC) from Friday 25 to Sunday 27 February 2011.
Earth Fair Market is home to more than 40 top-quality food traders producing ethical and organic food of the highest quality. Earth Fair Market is committed to supporting small local food producers and to present an experience that moves away from overly packaged food loaded with hormones and preservatives. Instead Earth Fair Market seeks to create easy access to ethical food, ensuring the eating experience becomes magical.
With the market happening under a Bedouin tent on the Design Indaba Expo floor at the CTICC, Earth Fair Market will be creating a market experience that inspires a sense of community. In between wine barrels and hay bales, diners can choose to enjoy their food at long communal tables, indulging in a moment of magic.

Earth Fair Market’s wide range of specialty foods is sure to tantalise all tastebuds. Choose from a selection of made-to-order, handmade sushi by Redies, using only the freshest salmon and tuna, or opt for a more oriental taste with their delicious spring rolls or chicken chow mein. Have a hamburger the South African way with Seguemagne’s kudu burgers, or their equally appetising beef and chicken wraps. Keep it hearty and wholesome with mouthwatering, homemade pies by the Gourmet Pantry. Think chicken and mushroom, lamb and rosemary, or roasted vegetables and feta.
The food connoisseur’s options are endless at the Earth Fair Market at Design Indaba. Have we mentioned the biltong, crepes, smoked fish and handmade pasta that will also be sold? Or balance the all things savoury with a nice dash of sweet from Patrician Functions, which will be making a fine range of the most mouthwatering fudge in town. There’s also handcrafted cakes and desserts, and do look out for the highly recommended apple strudel and giant muffins!
