Scholten & Baijing blend Asian and European culture to create a dialogue between applied art and everyday products.
Minimal, colourful and extraordinary are just some of the terms used to describe Scholden & Baijing’s “Color Porcelain” collection comprising bowls, candleholders, cups, serving platters, vases and a tea set.
The Dutch designers worked alongside 1616 Arita Japan, one of the oldest Japanese porcelain manufacturers to perfect not only the porcelain outline, but also the colour of each individual piece.
Preparing a colour analysis involving archived Japanese porcelain masterpieces, Scholten & Baijing pay tribute to the Japanese pigments including aquarelle blue, light green, red-orange and yellow ochre, which played a prominent role in the production of works made from early Japanese craftsmen.
“Color Porcelain” is on the Designs of the Year 2013 shortlist and is on display at the London Design Museum’s Designs of the Year 2013 exhibition until 7 July 2013. The winner will be announced on 17 April 2013.
